Improving Equity in Education

One Student at a Time

Bringing PEARL to Your City Project for Equitable Access in Remote Learning

The shift to online learning during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the drastic inequities between school districts and within individual schools. Project for Equitable Access in Remote Learning (PEARL) exists to bring equal opportunity to all students in remote learning. Whether it is because of financial or technological inequities, If students in your community are not receiving the support they deserve to learn remotely, PEARL can help. Contact us today to learn how we can bring PEARL to your community to help students access equitable learning opportunities.

A Better Future for our Kids

PEARL was conceived by a group of community activists who believe in advancing equity in education for every child. Our vision is to help close the equity gap in schools, now and in the future, due to learning loss, technological challenges and disparate resources.

Achieving Academic Success

Our mission is to help students achieve academic success, complete their educational track and reduce learning loss, including gaps made worse during the pandemic.  PEARL’s tutors provide four hours of academic assistance per week in order to help students navigate remote and asynchronous learning.

Why PEARL?

PEARL gives students access to experienced tutors and teachers who can support them in subjects areas they struggle with. Our tutors provide four hours of academic assistance per week in order to help students navigate remote and asynchronous learning. We are dedicated to closing the educational equity gap, and bringing high-quality learning to students everywhere.

Our Team

PEARL was initially launched at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, during the COVID-19 pandemic and can be duplicated in many other settings. Students are selected to participate in PEARL by school administrators and educators. Groups of 3-4 students work with a college or graduate student instructor who is mentored by a retired teacher, as part of a layered support team. Each school week, PEARL tutors help navigate assignments, asynchronous and remote learning, and work collaboratively with classroom teachers and school administrators to identify and resolve learning issues.
